English Comes Alive Through
Real-Life Exploration
PGH English Explorer is a unique small-group learning experience where English grows through meaningful conversation, real-life exploration, and joyful human connection.
Rather than learning English only through textbooks and worksheets, Explorers build language skills through authentic experiences that make learning memorable, practical, and meaningful.
How It Works
Each Explorer receives two connected weekly learning experiences.
1. Table Time
One weekly 1-hour small-group lesson
Each PGH English Explorer group begins when four
Explorers make a commitment to learn together.
This 4-person group structure creates the ideal balance of:
* meaningful participation
* friendship and connection
* personal attention
* strong group energy
Explorers may form their own group by inviting others to join them, or Miss Alisa may help form a group based on age, learning needs, and schedule.
This group formation becomes each Explorer's first challenge -- an invitation to practice curiosity, courage, openness, and new connection.
During Table Time, Explorers build skills in:
*Conversation. *Listening * Reading. *Writing. *Vocabulary. *Confidence
2. Expedition Time
One weekly 3-hour guided exploration outing
Explorers step beyond the table and into meaningful real-world experiences throughout the Pittsburgh region.
Each week's lesson and outing are thoughtfully connected through a focused seasonal theme, allowing English to come alive through observation, conversation, and shared discovery.
Examples may include: parks and nature walks, libraries, museums, gardens, cafes, cultural events, seasonal outings.
Who It's For
PGH English Explorer is a bridge-building learning community that brings people together across cultures, generations, and backgrounds.
With one arm reaching toward international Explorers and the other toward local individuals and families, we create meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and build friendships together.
The program is especially meaningful for:
International Explorers
Children, teens, college students, adults, visiting scholars, and families seeking greater confidence, connection, and belonging through English.
American Children & Families
Children and families who value curiosity, meaningful conversation, and cross-cultural friendship --- and who desire to build bridges of understanding, hospitality, and community with people from around the world.
Adult Explorers
Adults seeking community, conversation, cultural connection, and continued growth through meaningful learning experiences.
Group Structure is Small Groups
of 4 Explorers
This structure allows each Explorer to:
* participate fully
* receive personal attention.
* build friendships
* grow in confidence
